PASAT Norms Clarification - 7/2/09

Subject: Re: PASAT pacing intervals

Hi Gail,

I have double checked this with Bob Heaton and Donald Franklin, and the PASAT that we use (both in the Heaton norms and the Diehr paper) should be 3.0, 2.4, 2.0, and 1.8.

There was an error in the norms book, that we discovered some time ago. I believe we told PAR in case there is any new printing.

Hope this clarifies, and sorry for any confusion!

Igor

Good Afternoon, Dr. Grant:
We, psychometrists, are having a debate regarding the presentation speed of the numbers on the PASAT. In the comprehensive norms book, it says that the numbers were at the rate they were on the original Gronwall 1977 tape, 2.4, 2.0, etc. although some of the other procedures and instructions were from Diehr (1998). Our question is in regard to the Heaton norms in the Comprehensive book. Are they in fact at the 2.4, 2.0 rate or are they at the Diehr rate of 3.0, etc. I have been working on various HIV trials, including CHARTER, and and know that you are personally involved with the PASAT in its various permutations, therefore, I have taken the question to the source.

Translation: The Comprehensive Heaton Norms are correct, only the state time intervals on page 11 are incorrect and should have stated the intervals are 3.0, 2.4, 2.0 and 1.6.
